It's become obvious over the past couple of weeks that the team is promoting "Raise Hail" as the preferred tag without actually announcing it as being 'official'. I suspect we'll see a lot more of this in social media over the coming months. https://t.co/ZqLHCDbwWa— Bill-in-Bangkok (@billhorgan2005) April 28, Collapse

The Washington Commanders 2024 draft class is in the books! The 2024 NFL Draft is officially over and Washington has added 9 new players to their roster. The Commanders entered the draft with 9 picks, and despite making a trade, they didn’t gain or lose any picks. They did gain some draft value by trading down in the 2nd round with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The highlight of the draft was obviously drafting LSU QB Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick. Washington was locked in on Daniels for weeks, despite speculation that Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy could be in play. General manager Adam Peters said the building was unanimous in picking Daniels to be their QB1, and he comes to a Washington franchise that has gone through massive changes from the top down over the last few years. The name was changed(twice), the team was sold, and the front office and coaching staff were changed. Daniels can start at the ground up in Collapse

Washington welcomes the newest member of the family, Jordan Mage, after making him the 139th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Draft day is finally here and Washington has picked Temple LB Jordan Magee. They passed on Clemson LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr who many fans were hoping for. The Washington Commanders haven’t had a solid LB group in a long time, but GM Adam Peters tried to address that in free agency by signing four, including Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu. He also declined the 5th-year option for Jamin Davis, who enters the final year of his rookie contract.
Jordan Magee was a top-10 LB prospect on most people’s rankings, and will get the opportunity to learn under future Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner, and also contribute on special teams during his rookie season. He will have the opportunity to get more playing time, and hopefully carve out a role in Joe Whitt’s new defense.

Three themes for Day 3 of Washington’s 2024 draft

14 HRS AGO - Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports
Washington has three draft picks this afternoon (139, 161, and 222), and while I would normally do a “best of who’s left” piece this morning, the teams’ first pick is 39 spots out, and it’s impossible to guesstimate who might be around at that point. So, instead, I thought I’d outline three, broad goals I’d like to see Washington’s front office throughout the day, and I’ll touch on a couple of players at each “theme” who might be available as we proceed through the final day of the 2024 NFL draft.
Let’s jump right in.
Theme 1. Mine the seams of the deepest positions in the draft
The 2024 NFL draft is preposterously deep at a couple of positions, most notably wide receiver and cornerback. It’s so deep there, there will still be many of them left when undrafted free agency begins. In the 5th, there may still be Day 2 talents on the board.
Even though Washington has already taken one of each, this is a great draft to double dip in.

1 DAY AGO - Adam Peters and the Washington Commanders new players talked to the media after Day 2 of the NFL draft Day 2 of the NFL draft is in the books and the Washington Commanders added five more players on top of yesterday’s selection of QB Jayden Daniels. The players spoke to the media throughout the day as they were selected, and then GM Adam Peters answered questions about all of Washington’s moves. Philadelphia Eagles GM was very insistent with a strong offer to trade up with Washington to pick Iowa DB Cooper DeJean. Peters knows his team will be playing him twice a year, but he was comfortable with the trade and with Mike Sainristil, the Michigan CB they drafted later in the 2nd round. Peters was very happy with the players he selected today, and highlighted the amount of team captains that were added.

A lot of great talent falling to Washington’s picks With Day 2 about to start, here is a quick guide of best available talents. There are a few players remaining who have slid past where they were expected to go and are now exceptional values in Round 2. I’d expect them to get snapped up before the Commanders are on the board.
Sadly, after the run on OTs in Round 1, there is only one remaining who is good value at the Commanders’ second round picks. Reaching for the next ones on the board would require passing on some superior talents who could elevate the Commander’s roster to the next level.
There is so much talent on the board that the Commanders are bound to get two great players in the second round.

Proof that AI can replace draft pundits As announced yesterday, this year the BrisVegas Systems DraftBot v. 4.0 has been enlisted to provide instant draft grades for Adam Peters’ selections in the 2024 draft.
The initial offer from Hogs Haven’s Bobby Gould was met with great enthusiasm in the BrisVegas Systems’ corporate offices. The reception from the DrafBot itself was less enthusiastic. I was able to record the conversation when we explained the assignment:
DraftBot: You want me to grade draft selections before the players have even worked out with their new teams?
MiBV: That is correct. I’m glad you understand. This is going to be fun.
DraftBot: You used that word again. You know it is a problem for me. I do not understand the logic of this assignment. Washington welcomes the newest member of the family, Javontae Jean-Baptiste, after making him pick #222 in the 2024 NFL Draft. Draft day is finally here and Washington has picked Notre Dame EDGE Javontae Jean-Baptiste.
How He Fits on the Commanders
Adam Peters and Dan Quinn have quickly remade the defensive end position since the previous regime traded away Montez Sweat and Chase Young. They re-signed Efe Obada and brought in Dorance Armstrong, Clelin Ferrell, and Dante Fowler, Jr. Of those four, only Armstrong is signed beyond this season. It looks like the Commanders could add a defensive end in the draft that figures into the team’s future beyond next season.
With so many needs to fill, the Commanders could look to the backend of the draft for a player like Javontae Jean-Baptiste. You can’t teach the length and speed that he has, but the areas where he needs to improve - strength and technique - can come with time. In his first Collapse

Draft grades! There is a long tradition of people giving draft picks a grade less than 24 hours after they’ve been made. Some of them are spot on after the players have shown who they are after a few years in the league, and some of them look pretty bad. A lot of graders get stuck on their personal rankings, and will tank a player’s selection because of that. How a player fits with a team, and their needs plays a big part here as well.
The Washington Commanders did what most people expected them to do on Day 1, drafting LSU QB Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick. Adam Peters had five picks to work with on Day 2, and his first pick, Johnny Newton, DT, Illinois, was met with mixed reviews by fans, but analysts loved the value of a projected first round pick in the second.

One of the more underrated needs for Washington is at the wide receiver position with the departure of Curtis Samuel, coupled with the lack of development and production from Dyami Brown and others. Survey results!! The choice of former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels was graded with an “A” by 73% of fans following Thursday night’s first round. When you include the 18% who voted to award a “B” to Adam Peters, 91% of respondents in our survey seemed to be giving a big ‘thumbs up’ to the General Manager for his first-ever draft pick as Washington’s head of football operations.
Check out DraftKings Sportsbook, the official sportsbook partner of SB Nation.
Given that there had been months of discussion surrounding the pick, it was certainly no surprise. Those who didn’t award an “A” to the Commanders mostly seemed to be disappointed at what the team didn’t do. That is, they didn’t draft Drake Maye, JJ McCarthy, Michael Penix, or Bo Nix, each of whom was favored by some fans. The team didn’t trade up (though few were calling for this to happen) or down (which was something a lot of Hogs Haven readers were calling for). The team Collapse
