4 HRS AGO - A brand developed by its talented fans The day before the draft, many (most) fans are spent on the topic of who to take over the extended draft weekend. For those who aren’t, there’s plenty still to read on Hogs Haven. For those who are, I’m going to go in a different direction this afternoon.
Since Washington’s football team announced that it was going to re-brand several years ago, a number of fans - particularly those with graphic design backgrounds - have taken cracks at offering up their own visions. Almost without exception, the serious proposals offered were better than what the “Commanders” ended up with.
In my mind though, two particular designers, “Gonzo” and “Bryan Flynn” stood out with their design acumen, and the thoughtfulness with which they approached the exercise.
These are fans who have volunteered - at least - hundreds of hours of their free time to put together a re-branding package that would do the franchise, fans, and the DMV proud. I love the work that each Collapse

This QB draft class could be historically great — or a historic letdown
Whether this class of quarterbacks will be memorable for its greatness or for its great disappointment remains up for debate, and the results won’t be known for several years. But for now, at least, there are reasons to be hopeful.
“Last year I … talked about how the 2024 draft really has a chance to be a special class,” said former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik, now an NFL analyst for SiriusXM. “I still think it does.”
If six quarterbacks are chosen in the opening round, that would match the record set in 1983. The six first-rounders that year included three eventual Hall of Famers in John Elway, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino. The others Collapse

2 DAYS AGO - Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports
With the start of the NFL draft just three days away, I wanted to do my final mock draft of the 2024 offseason.
We have all seen the smoke that the national media, agents and draft savants have drummed up for the number two overall pick, but our front office isn’t talking - and to me, that is a great thing!
Below is my mock draft (done via the Pro Football Network draft simulator) and a breakdown of each player I selected. I also added an updated two-deep depth chart based upon Washington’s free agent additions and the draft you see below.
Round 1, Pick 2
Drake Maye, QB, UNC
The gunslinger from North Carolina becomes the No. 2 overall pick of the draft, and he’s inserted into Kliff Kingsbury’s hybrid Air-Raid offense (one he’s already familiar with) to lead the next decade-plus of Washington Commanders football.
Player Comp: Justin Herbert

Pressure builds on Commanders GM Adam Peters as landmark choice looms
The new general manager has to get this right...
Daniel Jeremiah from the NFL Network highlighted the pressure Peters is facing via John Keim of ESPN. The respected analyst stated that so many new moving parts need to form a concise opinion about which quarterback is best. Then, it’ll be Quinn and his staff’s job to make sure this revamped roster gets on the same page quickly.
“He’s got a massive decision in front of him, starting with his very first pick. So that’s a lot of pressure. That’s difficult when you are just coming together with a coach and a general manager, not to mention new owner, new organization and trying to learn your existing roster.

Latest On Jayden Daniels, Commanders
Instead of hosting each quarterback on their own individual visit, the Commanders invited Daniels, UNC’s Drake Maye, Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. all at the same time. Based on reports that Daniels was caught off guard by this, they seemingly designed the group visit without informing the prospects that their competition would be in attendance.
Still, despite the surprise nature of the visit, it doesn’t seem like there are any hard feelings. Vacchiano reports that any issues have been settled, as the two sides Collapse

Picking a QB in the NFL draft remains a mysterious blind date
Finding a QB is frankly still a blind date. “Do we look stressed?” Washington General Manager Adam Peters asked. Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye? Michael Penix Jr. or J.J. McCarthy? It’s a quant’s quagmire. As sure of a shot as Caleb Williams of Southern California seems to be as the No. 1 pick for the Chicago Bears, data suggests that teams are wrong in identifying “franchise” quarterbacks roughly 75 percent of the time. Meanwhile, there could be a guy hiding somewhere further down. He may not have the hand size or some other measurable, but he has a low sack rate, he senses pressure, and he might be some organization’s dream date.
The fail rate when it comes to drafting first-round quarterbacks is worth examining in itself. How Collapse

How will the top of the NFL draft go? Even veteran GMs have no idea.
Four quarterbacks are almost certain to make up picks 1-4, but good luck finding NFL executives who agree in what order those four will go — or who even want to venture an educated guess about it.

In this week’s Reacts survey, we’re asking two questions.
Question 1
We’ve listed 8 positions and asked you to name the one that shouldn’t drafted in the first three rounds of the draft. Remember that the Commanders have 6 picks in those 3 rounds (Nos. 2, 36, 40, 67, 78, and 100). Two common reasons for not drafting a position are that the team already has sufficient talent at the position, or that the position value is not high enough. With respect to positional value, we all know that kickers, punters and long snappers don’t have high positional value while quarterbacks do. Ponder for a moment which of the listed positions Adam Peters should stay away from on Days 1 & 2, and then make your choice.

3 DAYS AGO - Emilee Fails/Washington Commanders
One of Adam Peters’ first moves as Washington’s General manager was to begin populating his front office with talent from elsewhere in the league, and one of his first additions was Detroit’s former senior director of player personnel, Lance Newmark.
Historically, the Lions would have been an unlikely organization to be poaching personnel talent from - they’ve been one of the worst franchise in the NFL over the past half century. But, over the past several years, they’ve ushered one of the most impressive turnarounds in the league, making it to the NFC championship game last year.
Detroit’s improvement correlates nicely with Newmark’s elevation to senior director of player personnel in 2022, though obviously the team’s general manager, Brad Holmes, hired in 2021, deserves the lion’s share of the credit.
